Ryanair Baggage Allowance 2026: Cabin, Priority and Hold Fees

Ryanair has some of the strictest and most enforced baggage rules in Europe, but they are simple once you understand them. Every passenger gets one free small bag. Everything else is paid for, and the gate fees are high, so it pays to get this right before you travel.

Free Small Bag

Every passenger can bring one small personal bag up to 40x30x20cm that must fit under the seat in front of you. This is the only bag included in the basic fare. A typical small backpack or holdall fits, but a standard cabin case does not.

To bring a second, larger cabin bag of up to 55x40x20cm weighing up to 10kg into the cabin, you need Priority and Two Cabin Bags, either bought separately or included in a fare bundle. This bag goes in the overhead locker. Without Priority, a bag this size must go in the hold.

Checked Bags

BagWeightMax size
Small checked bag10kg55x40x20cm
Standard checked bag20kg80x120x120cm
Larger checked bag23kg80x120x120cm

The absolute maximum weight for any single checked bag is 32kg. Travelling with an infant? A 5kg baby bag up to 45x35x20cm is included per child.

How to Avoid Fees

Ryanair strictly enforces its sizes, and bringing a cabin case to the gate without Priority is the classic expensive mistake. If your bag is bigger than 40x30x20cm and you have not paid for Priority or a checked bag, you will pay a gate bag fee that is far higher than booking online. Always add bags at the time of booking, and measure with wheels and handles included.
