Every day we capture cancelled flights from the live departure and arrival boards at UK airports. This is our own data, gathered around the clock, and it gives a clear picture of which airports and airlines saw the most disruption during September 2026. Here is what the month looked like.

Across the UK airport boards we monitor, we recorded 2,054 cancelled flights in September 2026, split across 962 departures and 1,092 arrivals. London Heathrow Airport saw the most, which is what you would expect given it is one of the busiest airports in the country. The busiest single days for cancellations were Tuesday 8 September (1099 cancellations), Wednesday 9 September (400 cancellations), Monday 21 September (94 cancellations).

What This Means for Travellers

A cancellation is stressful, but you have real rights. If your flight departs from a UK airport, or arrives in the UK on a UK or EU airline, and it is cancelled, you are usually entitled to a full refund or a replacement flight, and in many cases to compensation as well, unless the cancellation was caused by extraordinary circumstances such as severe weather or air traffic control restrictions. Our flight compensation guide explains exactly where you stand and how to claim.

You can check the current situation at any UK airport on our live boards, and each airport has its own cancellations page showing recent cancelled flights. Start with Heathrow cancellations, Gatwick cancellations or Manchester cancellations, or browse every airline in our airline directory.

We publish these figures every month from our own live tracking. They reflect the flights shown on the boards we monitor and both departures and arrivals are counted, so treat them as a guide to relative disruption rather than an official total.
